EuroShield advises data center developers, operators, investors, and hyperscale tenants on the specification, deployment, validation, and operational use of digital twins and engineering-grade simulation models. We are engaged as independent advisor — on the owner’s side of the table — across feasibility, design validation, commissioning support, and operational decision-making.
The term digital twin has been used to mean everything from a CAD viewer to a real-time operational surrogate. EuroShield’s working definition is narrower: a digital twin is a calibrated engineering model, connected to operational data, that is used to make a decision the owner can defend. Anything less is a dashboard with marketing copy on it.
Work is aligned to EN 50600-3-1 management and operational information, ISO 23247 digital twin framework for manufacturing (as adapted to DC operations), ISO/IEC 30134 KPI definitions, ASHRAE TC 9.9 thermal envelopes for CFD calibration, IEC 61970 / IEC 61968 (common information model) for electrical-twin interoperability where applicable, and the EU Energy Efficiency Directive and CSRD where the twin feeds regulatory reporting. Where the twin is connected to live OT systems, IEC 62443 obligations apply to the connection path.
Vendor-neutral, by commercial structure. We evaluate Cadence Reality DC (Future Facilities 6SigmaDCX), Schneider Electric EcoStruxure IT Advisor, Siemens Xcelerator and NX, AVEVA Engineering and System Platform, Ansys Twin Builder, IES Virtual Environment, Autodesk Tandem, Hexagon SmartPlant Enterprise, Bentley iTwin, and adjacent platforms on merit.

When a Digital Twin Earns Its Cost — And When It Does Not

Is there a decision the twin will change? If the owner would make the same design, commissioning, or operational decision with or without the twin, the twin is not paying for itself.

Is the calibration data real? A thermal CFD model calibrated against actual site telemetry is an engineering tool. The same model calibrated only against design assumptions is an expensive hypothesis.

Can the operations team sustain it? A twin that requires two specialist engineers to maintain and is abandoned after Year 1 has produced a depreciated asset.

EuroShield’s position: a digital twin is a means, not an end. On AI-dense builds it is frequently justified. On commodity colocation it frequently is not. We scope it case by case and we will recommend against deployment where the decision-value is thin.
